“I have an old stereo system and have this adaptor and a Bluetooth speaker and they both will connect to my iphone but not to the speaker. How do I troubleshoot this?”

Not sure what you’re asking - You should be able to connect your iPhone directly to the BT speaker to listen, or you can connect your iPhone to this device (which should be connected to one of the stereo inputs) and listen using conventional speakers. You can only connect to one BT device at a time.
