- Answer The datalink is for added computer things like the automatic wipers, scheduling vehicle maintenance, gauges, and fuel efficiency that you can see on the HU...these car manufacturers *cough Mazda cough* like to run those thru the 'infotainment system'...You can install it without those features. YMMV
