It should work fine, I mount my Nikon d500 which is about 2 lb and I have several different lenses and some of them range and weight from 3 to 5 lb. I think you'll be fine keeping the weight to a max of 8 to 10 pounds. Manfrotto manufacturers tripods that can handle up to 22 lb and higher. I like the manfrotto 290 tripod because because I travel a lot and it's lightweight and very sturdy.

Though I wouldn't be hiking in anywhere using this. Between 4lbs for the spotting scope and the weight of this particular tripod, it is pretty heavy. Lots of extra weight to carry.
