Hi Doug, the MDB8959SFZ will only vent externally if the dry cycle is interrupted (with the Dry light on and the door opening). The dishwasher will contain all moisture and as the unit cools that moisture will condensate on the tub walls and drain down and out of the unit. With proper installation, you should not have any problem with the surrounding cabinets.
