  • Features
    • Hard Food Disposer: true (This feature has blades to chop and disintegrate hard food particles, making them small enough to easily drain away. This prevents them from being recirculated back onto dishware and allows for easy maintenance.)
    • Drying Method: Heated drying (Appliances that use heat to dry the dishes will include a heating element or minerals which transform moisture into heat. A fan or vent then circulates the hot dry air throughout the tub during the drying cycle. This may reduce drying time and the risk of water spots. Appliances that use minerals to produce heat are considered more energy efficient than those that include a heating element. Appliances that use condensation drying are considered more energy efficient than those that use heated drying. Instead, high temperature water is produced during the final rinse cycle which warms the interior and eventually condensates and drains out of the machine.)

Q: does this model have a garbage disposal

A: Hi birdie, thank you for your inquiry. Yes, this model does have a maintenance free hard food disposer. We hope this helps!

Q: where is air vent located?

A: Hi marie, There is a vent on the inside of the dishwasher, which flows into the drain hose. If the drain hose is connected to plumbing which is lower than 20 inches above the floor or subfloor, then you should use an air gap with this dishwasher.

Q: Does this dishwasher have an actual heating element that dries the dishes, or does it use condensation?

A: This Dishwasher has an actual heating element that dries that dishes. While the actual water heater is responsible for heating water before it enters the dishwasher, the heating element is a supplemental tool that serves several different purposes. Most modern-day dishwashers operate at a temperature between 130 to 170 degrees Fahrenheit. Water entering the dishwasher has an average temperature of 120 degrees Fahrenheit, which may or may not properly sanitize the dishes. The heating element, however, warms the water up by an additional 10-15 degrees; thus, effectively killing harmful bacteria and germs. In addition to killing bacteria, the dishwasher’s heating element serves a second purpose: to encourage faster and more efficient drying times.Thank you for your inquiry regarding our Maytag appliances!

Q: I have an old Maytag dishwasher I need to replace and am not sure about the new ones fitting. Old model is DWU9202AAM, serial # 32101973SK. Width of opening is 24.5 x 33.5(7). Thanks

A: Hello CarolJ! The dimensions on this model are: Depth 24 1/2, Height 34 1/2, Width 23 7/8, Minimum Height 33 1/2". Thank you for your inquiry on our Maytag appliances.

Q: Is there a light indicating that the washer is running and if so does it show a different color when cycle is completed?

A: That was a good question. There is a green light on the front of the door that illuminates during the wash cycle. It goes out at the end of the cycle and the LCD on top edge of the door displays the word clean, until the door is opened and closed for the first time after the cycle.

Q: Does Best Buy install the DW (understand a hookup kit is required) or is that either a separate charge?

A: Yes, Best Buy can install. When we purchased our DW, BB was offering free installation but, yes, we had to purchase a hookup kit. The hose for intake of water was not long enough and we ended up having to go out to purchase a longer hose. Install guy came back two days later to replace the hose. No charge for the return visit but the install guy did stop at Home Depot to purchase the longer hose which we of course reimbursed him for.

Q: Where is the steam vent located? My last dishwasher had a steam vent in the side of the door, which blew directly onto my cabinets, which created problems.

A: Hi Doug, the MDB8959SFZ will only vent externally if the dry cycle is interrupted (with the Dry light on and the door opening). The dishwasher will contain all moisture and as the unit cools that moisture will condensate on the tub walls and drain down and out of the unit. With proper installation, you should not have any problem with the surrounding cabinets.

Q: Does this dishwasher actually have a 10 YEAR parts AND labor warranty? Just want to make sure it's not a typo.

A: Labor is ONLY covered for the first year. On Best Buy's website it is a typo that Labor is also covered for 10 years.
