I don't weigh 400 lbs--however in the instructions the weight issue noted that the chair could be useful for those weighing LESS than 400. I felt at ease about the product's "legs" material and structure to sit, for the design of the chair/bench eliminated any worries of any safety issues.

The specs I think say 350 lbs.  he only weighs 175, so I don’t know.
