You do not have to clip it to your computer - the clip is foldable so that you can place the camera on your desk or any other surface (level surface recommended). If you need the camera to be up higher, this camera is also compatible with miniature tripods. Any standard mini tripod for webcams/cameras will work - this camera uses standard 1/4-20 thread.
