Some head units require a signal from the parking brake switch. The switch grounds the lead when the brake is applied. This signal is used to prevent you from being distracted by video or by messing with the settings while you're driving, by disallowing certain actions when the brake is not applied. But because it would be trivial to just ground the parking brake wire on the head unit, many of them force you to start the engine (or switch to ACC position), then release and reapply the brake, before the settings menu can be entered. This unit connects in place of the wire to the parking brake switch and emulates the parking brake being set, released, and set again. In my case, I didn't want to release the brake until I was ready to move the vehicle, even momentarily. So I didn't want to connect the brake wire as the head unit requires. This little unit does the job.
