• The only thing a capacitor does is store energy. A twelve volt car battery/alternator system usually runs at least at 12.5 volts. That means to get 2500 watts divide 2500 by 12.5 and you need an additional 200 amps at 12.5 volts to make 2500 watts. (volts x amps = watts). The main purpose of a capacitor in a high wattage 12 volt music system is to get rid of generator wine and to help with peak power requirements.

• I have a 2500 watt amp and works fine. You need to make sure your car alternator is high amp and u should not have issues. I upgraded my car alternator to a 160 amp unit and got the cap for kinda insurance so won’t smoke my alternator.
