They really need to be clear and up-front about this -- you are not purchasing the software, you're renting it! You pay each year for renewal. At a price to be determined ...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Let's be clear on this: 1. For most individuals, yes, you would have to pay a yearly fee to use the Microsoft Office software. If you are a student or have a business account, different rules would apply, and I leave that for you to search further on your own, as there are a number of variations. 2. One answer to this question states that you would need to keep updating the software to get the latest "drivers." This is absolutely INCORRECT. Drivers are only needed to connect a device (i.e., hardware) to a computer, not to connect software. The updates that you would get as soon as developed would be new features, security updates, etc., in other words, updates to the software. 3. If you think you need every new feature Microsoft comes up, by all means you should pay the subscription. However, most people only use a very small number of the total available. In this latter case, you could buy an older version of Office and probably be fine (even if your version only supported .doc files and you needed to read a .docx file, free add-ons are available to read, though not save as, these files). If you just have to type a letter or paper, WordPad, which comes free with the Windows OS, is right there, and is actually a very old version of MS Office. 4. If you interact with many users using Microsoft Office, again, get the subscription, which will always provide you with the most compatibility with other people. However, if you just perform basic work (type a letter or term paper, keep track of inventory, make a presentation for your business), you will find that there are several free versions of Office available, all of which will read Office documents, and some of which are in several ways easier to use (for instance, you won't have to open a different program when going from a Word to an Excel document). Google Docs was mentioned, but there are also LibreOffice, FreeOffice, Apache OpenOffice, WPS Office, and Kingsoft Office, all free, all very compatible with MS and each other, all very good.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you have to renew if you bought a one year subscription. You could get an unending subscription, but that one will not keep you updated with new drivers etc.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yeah you have to renew it annually with additional fees
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. All software programs are moving towards subscription based. Meaning you pay every year for a 1 year license.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, if you want to continue the subscription.
