“Can you use an adapter to plug the USB into a wall socket or will it only charge when plugged into the Xbox? The one I have stops charging 30 seconds in when connected to the wall adapter but charges when attached to the Xbox”

It charges the Xbox Wireless Controller when plugged into any standard USB outlet in addition to the Xbox Series X|S.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Thank you. Turns out it's defective and doesn't charge at all. It would say it was charging then after a min it would say it stopped and was half full I would unplug it and it would go to actual charge and and turn red then turn off. I Reseated the battery, changed cords, changed adapters, plugged into xbox and said it was charging but never showed it actually charging. I trouble shot it on Microsoft and they just said to keep it plugged in at all times. Thankfully I saw in other comments that they are interchangeable with the Xbox ones batteries.
