“Can this be recharged in the xbox series X controller just using the USB-C wire? I've searched on youtube and people mention that (rechargeable AA batteries) will not be recharged unless you take them out of the controller unless using a separate charger.”

Yes, plug the usb c cord into the controller while the battery pack is inside.

When charging it comes with a long usb c cable that you always see the lightning symbol when its charging and working. That and the controller will vibrate when you plug it in.
