Hello there, Unfortunately, nothing is off limits when it comes to malware and viruses. That includes, smart phones, tablets and PCs (including Apple products). Surface RT does come with virus protection. Windows Defender and Windows SmartScreen are built into Windows RT and help guard your PC against viruses, spyware, and other malicious software in real time. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. To add to what's been said, like ANY device that connects to the internet, you'll want to keep it patched up. As was mentioned, Surface not only gets updates like regular PCs do, but it even has Windows Defender on there for AV. Also, going by Microsoft's track record, Surface will probably be supported for much longer than competing tablets. iPad 1 support ended years ago-it's no longer safe to use on the internet. iPad 2 support will probably end this year or next, while by comparison Microsoft is only just now ending XP support, THIRTEEN YEARS after it was originally launched. Android devices are the worst of anything-most of them are gooped up with third party software and can only get updates from the manufacturer, so you get updates months late or never. Even Nexus devices that are "pure" Android still only get updates for a few years. In other words, Surface or other Windows 8/RT tablets will probably be supported longer than anything else, but like ANY type of computing device, you want to make sure you're keeping it updated. I really like that Microsoft now updates Flash themselves through Windows Update, since Adobe has been so terrible about keeping Flash updated...come to think of it, that's another thing that's worth mentioning. Windows RT and 8 tablets run real Flash on a real web browser. Android and iOS don't have Flash, and don't really have fully featured browsers (not terrible, but not fully featured).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.i do not have virus protection on my tablet. i was told it did not need it because its a tablet and not a desktop - a friend described the difference and how that works [ i do trust him ].
