“On the desktop "app" of the Surface, not on the app screen, could I download google chrome off the internet?”

• No, the only way you can download applications is through the Windows Store. There are two different layouts of internet explorer though, one in desktop, one in "metro". The internet explorer is actually good enough for me. I don't think there are any alternatives available in the app store as of now, but the app store is growing.

• Currently there is no way to install Chrome on the Surface RT. Google may be working on a RT version of their browser, but currently, Internet Explorer is by far the best browser for touch-based devices.
