Unfortunately Windows RT can't handle as many video formats as real Windows can. It can't directly play MPEG2 files from my tivo for example. Basically the restrictions are the same if not identical as what an iOS device like iPad can play-you have to use a full Windows PC to transcode stuff for Windows RT if it's not already in like MPEG4/H.263. Windows RT *DOES* have real file system support though, as well as the ability to use external drives, which other tablet OSes lack...it would just be awesome if it would support more formats natively! I guess someone could write a DVD player for it that could play back DVDs and handle other video formats and sell it in the Windows Store, but so far I don't think any reputable company has.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't think so, if you can play it on a windows 8 pc, you should be fine
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. So far I haven't had any problems playing different formats of videos. I have ripped 6 DVDs and put them on a MicroSD card, they're in MP4 format and they play just fine. You can also google "what types of videos can surface RT play?" and there's a list of compatible formats on the Microsoft website.
