You will be able to close the laptop and use a monitor. You will also need an external keyboard and mouse otherwise it is just a pretty picture on the monitor
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you can close your laptop and use with a different monitor. You should be able to just connect to the dock and close without doing anything fancy. This docking station only really works with the Surface products though, not just any laptop.

Please try again later.You *can* use the Surface with the Dock with the laptop closed but it will run much slower as the notebook automatically throttles down for the reduced heat dissipation. I found I get great performance, rivaling a light gaming desktop, with the lid/screen open. You can use the wake/sleep button to start it up or sleep it open or closed.
