At first I was upset because I thought I had to pay $199 dollars for the software. I used google to figure out the steps needed to turn the S mode off and upgrade to Windows 10. But it kept saying that my account wasn't activated. However, I found that if you hit "Trouble shoot" it reboots its self and starts back up. After it starts back up it will show that you have Windows and allow you to upgrade for FREE. Use the link code in this change message to upgrade from S mode for free.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. At minimum, I suggest ditching Windows 10 S out of the gate for Windows 10 Home. The question is, what do you want to do that requires Windows 10 Pro? The reason I upgraded my primary laptop was to run VMs (via Hyper-V). Regardless, if you do need the features such as on prem Domain join, AAD Domain join or bitlocker, then you gotta go with Pro. There is no reason why you wouldn't be able to upgrade and in fact, it's just a key change. I got a Pro key online from a reputable place for like $18 but that place stopped selling them. As such, you just have to do some research on vendors if you want to go with one of the low cost ones.

Here's how to switch from Windows 10 Home Edition to Pro: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12384/windows-10-upgrading-home-to-pro. This also provides a link for how to transition to Windows 10 Home if you have not already done so.
