I have the type2 keyboard and it fits without issues on my surface pro I have no issues with it so far. I just bought this 2 weeks ago along with the type 2 keyboard. I would recommend also getting the cover and mouse with it. You will have a better experience with your surface pro, as far as upgrading to 8.1 that will be more of a preference than anything. Both type 2 keyboard and Windows 8 works fine with it. I have no issues at all with it.
