If it is, simply put the disk in the drive and install it. Be sure to back up any files you don't want to lose. If you have a touch enabled computer, like an all-in-one, you may have to download the latest touch screen drivers from the manufacturer such as HP for example. If you don't have a touch enabled computer or monitor, then much of the windows 8.1 experience simply won't be there.

The assumption is since you are using an operating system that is 7 years old, so is your hardware since you cannot really buy or download it conventionally. However if your hardware is less than 3 years old, then Windows 8.1 is the OS you have been waiting for!
