Roku is a streaming service, it turns a regular TV into a smart TV. You still need an internet service like CenturyLink or Xfinity or Bright House, etc. It has a few more choices than most smart TVs and Blu Ray players. But you still have to pay for most services like Netflix or Amazon prime or any of the premium channels like HBO. We cut the cable cord over a year ago.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Roku is a streaming service, so you will need pretty fast internet service if you want to watch tv without "Buffering......." notifications. I would not advise using Roku for internet speeds under 25MBPS. That said, I have a Roku device and it is mostly what I use now. It is a unified place where you can watch streaming services like Amazon Video and Redbox Video, as well as subscription services such as SHOWTIME and HBO (for the same price you'd pay on cable), YouTube, NETFLIX, HULU, CBS All Access (new Star Trek), Pandora radio, some content from broadcasters like ABC and NBC. I have also purchased a Mohu antenna so I can watch local channels over-the-air in HD. It really depends on what you like to watch. Go to the Roku site and see if the content you are interested in is available.
