Yes you do need and wall plug power source to supply power the amplifier to receive a better signal. If u dont use the amplifier supplied you will have poor quality or bad reception.

This antenna connects to the TV / receiver via 75 ohm coaxial cable. You can use it without the included amplifier or if you use the amplifier you need to an ac outlet to plug the USB power supply into. That is the only electrical connection required.

If however you have more than one device hooked up to this antenna and the tv you are using for power to the antenna Is not on, it may not supply power for the antenna to be Amplified and thus the antenna does not work properly.
