Hi AJ, that's a great question, and we agree that a controlled setting is not the same as a home. While each home is different, we recommend placing the unit in a centralized location to where you spend most of your time. Compared to other air purifiers that rely strictly on mechanical filtration, these models require higher fan speeds to circulate the air. Since our PECO technology not only filters but also destroys pollutants, the standards of particle capture may not reflect the efficacy of our products. Our units are designed to change the air at least once per hour at the recommended room sizes, though some of our products change the air more than once per hour.
