“I purchased an iPad for my grandson at Christmas. I thought there would be a certificate for AppleCare but cannot find one. Do they only have AppleCare if they have a TotalTech plan? Doesn't AppleCare come from Apple directly?”

You get AppleCare for 2 years free if you have total tech. If not, you have to pay for it, it can be purchased from best buy or from apple.
