you can use a phone or tablet to access the modem settings

No don't have to, I brought it to use with Xfinity Internet, all I had to do is call them up and provide them the MAC address of this device so they can register the BYOD on their system and activate the deceive, that's it. Once they activate it, you can use the network name and password provided to login to any of the devices which connects to the wifi.
