I can’t understand why your friend wants to purchase a modem and doesn’t have a computer. The modem itself does not provide any Wi-Fi, so purchasing it wouldn’t allow her to do streaming or anything of that nature. However, if she wants to use a voice over Internet protocol device (VOIP) for her telephone, then she does need a modem. And this one would work well for that; it’s actually what I’m doing - using an Ooma device for telephone answering with a regular telephone and no landline. However, if she actually has a landline, I’d recommend instead that she purchase a telephone that has a built-in answering system. There are many good ones on the market, including systems that have cordless extension telephones that have a base that simply plugs into an electrical outlet. Some of these systems are sold at Best Buy but also at places like Cosco. Does this answer your question?
