We updated to this cable modem because it is DOCSIS 3.0 compliant and fairly inexpensive, and because my experience with Netgear has been good. I don't foresee that our local cable provider will offer speeds better than 100 mbps anytime soon, so this was a good choice for me. There are similar modems capable of higher speeds if your provider offers the very high speeds. They cost somewhere in the range of $150 to $200, and may be worth it if your broadband usage is high.
