I had to take mine across the parking lot to the local Verizon store for the sim card - once installed it hooked up to Verizon without a hitch

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I bought mine instore but activated it myself through total wireless. It needed sim card. I'm so happy with it I would do it again.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It might depend on what carrier you are with. I ASSUME the major carriers you can simply call. With Sprint when we would get a new phone we would call and give them the necessary information (i.e. the IMEI) to attach the phone to our account. With T-Mobile we simply called in the Sim card information and had them attach it to the phone number. Make sure you know the plan/charges you are going to have with your smartphone. When we had Sprint they would charge us a fee for having a 'smartphone' on our plan. It might make it easier for people to answer your question if you would specify what carrier you are with.
