I think I understand your question, the projector does not have a video out capability, meaning that you cannot connect the projector to a flat screen TV and have the image display on the TV. This projector will project onto a wall, the ceiling, a white screen (e.g. pull down), white sheet, etc. It functions just like a movie projector. There are other adapters available that will allow you to connect your phone to a TV and send the image to the TV screen.

About projecting it on a 42" flat screen is a yes, but it has to be on a white background ... so if just on your black screen tv, I don't think it will show. Just like any projector, you need a white screen.
