Choose the activate today option when you place the order to keep the lower price. It's confusing, but no problem. When in doubt, call the BestBuy. You can activate the device only when you have it delivered. You can still use the old phone until you activate the new one. It's perfectly fine.

Please try again later.If you activated a new phone on a current line you are using because you "upgraded" then your old device would not be able you be used anymore pretty immediately, so I recommend waiting until the new phone comes. You have up to 45 days to "activate" a new phone either on a new line or a current line you are upgrading.
