Don't know. Just bought it. Hooked up to Comcast very simply. Amazon Q&A reports different experiences, all 2 years old. Best to check with Comcast.

Yes, but remember, you won't necessarily have to do any updates yourself. Your internet provided will most likely send any updates required for your unit. Remember your pass word for the unit so you can from time to time go in yourself and check for any updates that may have been missed.
