I have the eero router system but have it connected to Netgear Nighthawk CM150V Cable modem and works great. My home is 3100sq ft and on one level and have had no problems. I'm receiving 200 mbs in all my rooms depending on the time of day. To answer your question, you would have to contact the dealer to confirm the deactivation portion. I would like to think you could but that only works with certain models. The router I gave the review on was purchased for a friend. Beware, I was sold as NEW and turned out to be refurbished. Bummer.
