Our situation was a little different. We simply bought the MT7711 and handed it to the Infinity installer of our new tvs ,phones and internet. He called the office and to change the order and installed our modemrouter. A quick visit to a xfinity store, or even a chat sesion on xfinity site will give you permission to do what you suggest. There is no resistance to their losing rental revenue. The Motorola MT recommended by Best Buy is working great and my old PCs and laptop working faster than ever.
