You can do this by going to Settings > Security & Privacy > Device Lock > Screen Lock, then entering your current PIN, pattern, or password and selecting None to disable the lock screen. During activation, simply choose the option to keep your current number, and your remaining service balance and plan benefits are typically transferred to the new phone as well.
