• Yah. I've connected both, can't tell the difference and I think I'm pretty discerning. Caveat is that I'm talking about movies. The surround sound isn't for music, it breaks up notes kind of like Bose or Apple do

• To my understanding you don’t get Dolby Atmos through the optical port, so if that’s something you are interested in, I’d stick with HDMI
