This is a fully functional surround sound system that is designed to connect to your TV and devices. There is no need to connect a third party AVR unit to the speakers as the processing and connections are built into the system itself. There may be limited connectivity with an Onkyo receiver, for example if connecting analog devices (like a record player) out into the Aux input of the Shockwafe.
