“Have a cabin which we close up for winter. However, keep one small well insulated room heated. Have 2 thermostats, switch main off and turn small room on. Can this be accomplished with a Nest e and a sensor? Would like to heat main prior to arriving.”

You should be able to do this with the Nest. Using the mobile app I've set the thermostat with my phone to "unoccupied" when we leave and then switch it on 30 minutes before we get back - that's great during very hot or very cold weather.
