This is a SWITCH not a router. You need a router to communicate with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) like Comcast, Fios, Cox, etc. You can buy a Cable Modem from BestBuy or another source instead of renting one through your ISP. If you need more than the supplied connections on the router (usually 4 Ethernet jacks) you can add this switch to add more ports/jacks/connections. Keep in mind, if your on cable and you buy a cable modem, and have more than one device hooking up (usually) you need to purchase a cable modem WITH WIFI or a cable modem and a Wifi Router (same thing like a switch, however it manages devices, adds wifi and is needed prior to a switch) Hope this helps....

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have AT&T Giga-bit fiber optic service. I used a NETGEAR - 200 Series Unmanaged SOHO 5-Port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Switch to split the signal from my AT&T modem to my Netgear Nighthawk Wi-Fi router and the U-verse TV controller. My Netgear Nighthawk speed tested at 164 Mbps download and 157 Mbps upload. That is the same speed with the Nighthawk connected alone.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.it is a switch not a router. but I see just under a full gigabit transfer rate on my network. http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/solutions/small-business/resource-center/connect-employees-offices/network-switch-what.html
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It will do close to 1 Gb per second. But it's all depends on your entire network. Your computer, it's NIC, your computers Hard Drive, your router, your WiFi (WiFi has ups and downs), your cabling. Any of these can slow down that connection.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This device is a switch not a router, you will need a router to connect to your cable company.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.
