Routers work best if installed in the highest of the locations. Definitely somewhere on the upper floor. Front or back shouldn't make a difference, though middle would be best.

You may have to move the router around a bit if you find that you have weak coverage at the far end of the building. I have a Linksys E2500, which is a bit more powerful, and it covers my entire one-floor house. I usually have streaming video, online gaming, and general 'net surfing all going at the same time without much trouble. Stay away from current Linksys stuff, though, since Belkin bought it - go with a better Netgear router if you're worried about coverage and lots of wireless devices attached to it.
