Depends on what you are connecting. I use my iPhone 13 pro max on AT&T for hot spot for work sometimes and connection is solid, but it’s 5g. My wife uses her 11 pro max on 4g and it tends to cut out more, but still solid when it works. If you are connection one device should be good but if you plan to download think another router. On your second question, you will know if you only have one box from AT&T if so it is a modem/router combo, which is what they usually give to customer.
