“I currently have a Netgear WNDR3700. WAN->LAN speed (modem to router download) maxes out at 230MBs. I have a 400MBs+ speed internet plan . Will this provide that WAN->LAN of 400+MBs? Will it work with my (Netgear) wifi external extender?”

This is not a ISP router so if your ISP router is limited at 230mbs then this will not increase that speed from WAN-LAN. In this sarnario your ISP modem is still going to be your bottle neck. Look at upgrading the ISP router then get this router for your LAN.
