Not at all. You get great range anywhere. Anything less would probably not be as reliable.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Based on my research and conversation with a Best Buy employee when I replaced my router I think that this one would be overkill. I bought it for my 1900 sq ft house. Saying that, it does also depend on how many electronics you have that will be connected to it. If you have multiple people in the apartment doing online gaming at the same time it may be worth it to prevent lagging. If not, there is another Netgear AC router that is about $80 that will probably get the job done. I hope this helps and good luck.
