I have had the system for 3 months and am on the same batteries doing optimized video and 20 second recordings when motion is detected. They claim to last 4 months. They hold 4 batteries and are not expensive. I found 12 replacement batteries on Amazon for 25 bucks. No they cannot be hard wired. This is strictly a wireless battery powered system.

In areas with lots of motion (such as my back porch where I'm passing in front of it many times a day), only a few weeks.
