Q: QuestionDoes this just connect and sut next to my AT&T router that is installed my basement? Would I need to purchase a cable to attach., where they placed the modem ,we were told it would be fine for the entire house, but the master bedroom is very slow.
Asked by Harry.
- A:Answer Harry, The Nighthawk and AT&T’s Uverse routers have multiple configurations that users can implement. For users that are not familiar with what or how these configurations may be setup it might be best to seek advise or services from the Geek Squad. For example: ATT Uverse modems/routers require an Administrator username/password to be configured and some users may not know them. Some routers may be configured to provide only wireless Wi-Fi services and others wired & wireless. The wireless functions would need to be disabled in the ATT router after using Netgear’s Nighthawk setup routine or you will have both attempting to use the same SSID or wireless name and will cause issues when attempting to connect. Netgear’s Nighthawk setup is OK and will configure the device to what Netgear thinks is optimal for your needs and that isn’t always the case. I made major modifications to the Nighthawks configurations to fit my needs. The Nighthawk is a very good router/wireless device BUT depending on it’s location and size of home (mine is 3 floors over 4000 sq ft) you might still have slow connections or even dead spots. It’s not all about distance from router but the number of walls/floors and their mass that will effect speeds. Hope this helps

Q: QuestionDoes it work with ATT fiber optic? I know I will have to bridge it, but is it compatible?
Asked by JT.
- A:Answer It sure is! I had the exact issue after I realized how trash the 2 in 1 router/modem AT&T and went looking for an upgrade. For some reason my internet speed was maxed (1 gig fiber) on my laptop WiFi but always slowed down to a crawl on all my other WiFi-connected tech. At first I was stuck as, like I said, the original ATT box is both router + modem, but things were fixed once I figured it out after tinkering with settings. Basically, if you have the same ATT 2-1 combo router/modem I have or just a 2 in 1 in general, turn off the WiFi settings ONLY for it. Leave everything else as is, and you’ll effectively turn it into a simple ATT router. From there I just hooked up the Red ONT cord into the ONT port of the ATT modem and connected an Ethernet cord to the Internet Port on the NightHawk. I’ll include pics below. Afterwards I checked speeds and my tv WiFi, iPhone WiFi, iPad WiFi, and everything else was maxing close to 1gbps simultaneously. It’s a monster router!
