It should. Also if you are renting you gateway from the cable company you might want to purchase your own and match everything for optimal performance

Not a big Cox fan, but their internet speed is probably among the best. Even if you get a good router (The Nighthawk with DST did not work well for me and I got the best one they had to offer. Returned it and got the comparable ASUS), if your internet speed is too slow it won't make your devices run smoother or better. You'll probably need to either up your internet speed or change providers. Once you do that you may discover your router wasn't the problem at all.
