This set comes with one unit that will act as a router and replace the linksys that you are currently using. The other two units are referred to as satellites. Each of them rely on the router to work properly. They may be connected via a wired connection or they have a special frequency reserved to connect to each other that will help boost performance if you are not able to directly hardwire them
