“We live in the country and get internet through a hot spot. (Satellite internet is actually slower, like direct tv or dish). Would this device be useful? With just one hot spot we don't use a router, how would this help?”

The Orbi system requires a direct Ethernet connection to your home's modem and a subscription to an ISP in order to access the Internet. Routers in general can only help you make the most out of your current subscription plan up to their designed limits; they cannot improve your subscribed speeds beyond it.

This router will only be compatible with a modem if you have one, connect it to the router and it will work just fine, but then you'll get the same internet speed from your original hot spot.

Please try again later.Routers can only transmit what they receive and generally require a direct connection via Ethernet to a modem and a subscription to an Internet Service Provider in order to access the Internet. While you would have the option of connecting your internal network devices together with any router, you would not be able to access the Internet without a subscription to an Internet Service Provider.
