“Has anyone tried to use this for gaming? I currently have the NETGEAR - AC1200 Dual-Band Wireless-AC Range Extender and while it has improved my speed, it disconnects once every hour, on the hour for some unknown reason. Any help is greatly appreciated.”

Ben, I use it for gaming. I just have the Orbi router too. I've had it since February on a 300MBP/S Spectrum connection. Connected to a Motorola Arris Modem. Upstairs when I do a speed test it says 359mbps. I use PS4 Pro on it. Hope this helps! I would recommend it. The range is epic. I've experienced ZERO drop of signal. Hasn't happened at all.
