“Does the adapter have enough space for another device to be plugged into the same outlet? (i.e. 1 for the adapter, and the 2nd for my surge protector). Basically, is there enough space to plug in to the 2nd outlet above where the adapter is plugged in?”

Barely. This thing is huge. If you have the extra outlet adapter, you're better off just plugging your 2nd plug into the adapter.
