It is recommended, if not a requirement that Powerline equipment be connected directly to power line. This was the case with my previous D-Link equipment which lasted for 5 years and survived power outages, brownouts, and lightening storms. My residence only has 2-wires with no true ground. Both my NETGEAR/D-Link powerline equipment was/is connected to my DSL-2640B Gateway ADSL2/2+ Modem-Router Wireless-G Router and Motorola SB6190 Surfboard Cable Modem, neither of which show signs of any electrical or signal stress. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It doesn't mention having any more protection than a standard wall outlet that I've seen in the manual or online. To be on the safe, I plugged a surge protector into the PLP2000 for my other devices.
