You need at least a pair. You plug one in, and an ethernet cable from it to your router. You plug the other one in elsewhere in the house, then you can connect an ethernet cable from that to a desktop/laptop and you should get internet connectivity.

Please try again later.When you purchase this product, you get "paired" units: One gets plugged into an outlet next to your ISP router of which a CAT6 cable will plug from that router into the walled unit; the second unit gets plugged into wherever you need a hard internet connection (NOT wireless) - again, plug a CAT6 cable from said unit into the device in question.
